Are there any large sound files in your project? Scratch desktop and the online version have different limitations on what they can save. Online, you can't save projects with sounds (or images) larger than 10MB.
still doesent work
Kilobyte to megabyte
Featured snippet from the web
KB and kB refer to kilobyte - a unit of information or computer storage equal to either 1,024 bytes (210) or 1,000 bytes (103), depending on context. MB refers to megabyte - a unit of information or computer storage equal to either 1,048,576 bytes (220) or 1,000,000 bytes (106), depending on context.

I don't know how many other people are having this problem and I don't know if it is just my internet.

The same things are happening to me, all it does is gives me some try again/download button. I developed a new update for my game and (using the file button) loaded it from my computer to my chrome browser. I could play the game, but it wouldn't save. I have been trying this for days and my friends are convinced that scratch is just being overwhelmed by the exceedingly large amount of use it is getting from people being stuck at home quarantining themselves from COVID-19. But I am going crazy anyway. So if there is anyway to fix it that would be great.

ask [try to save project again?] and wait

thats what i'm thinking as well, maybe because COVID-19 is causing places to go on Lockdown, so much people are using Scratch and also my Friend is lucky because he can save and Share his projects.
